Marissa S.
Private tutor in Grayslake, IL
Education
MIT, Brain and Cognitive Science (Bachelor of Science) 1999 University of Pittsburgh, Clinical and Developmental Psychology, (Master of Science) 2002
Experience
As an MIT undergraduate, I participated in a program, MIT Links, where I volunteered at local public elementary and middle schools to help in science and math classes. There I discovered how much I love to work directly with students. I have worked privately with students and for a tutoring center. My experience as a therapist counseling students elementary through high school has given me insight on how attitudes toward learning and behavioral issues can affect academic success. I find that sometimes developing new strategies and addressing those issues is as important as mastering new content. As an undergraduate at MIT I worked at the MIT Lab for Computer Science and as a research assistant on studies of memory and cognitive development.

Hobbies
While I have always had a great love of math and science, I also enjoy crafts and learning to make something new. I enjoy playing basketball and soccer. I have four children, ages 4 to 12, and watch how they each learn differently. We like to do hands on science experiments at home and to read together. My children are also involved in local theater and so we have all grown to love live theater.
