I have tutored students in English composition and reading at Urbana High School in Urbana, Illinois and at John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois. I have tutored Chinese accountants and economics students in speaking and reading English, and have helped American college students with their English composition. In earning my English degree, I was a member of the National Scholoar's Honor Society and the National Society for Collegiate Scholars. Since earning my law degree, I have assisted in the editing and creation of several published articles regarding the then-recent changes in the law. I believe the effective use of English is an enormously important and fundamental skill that often receives a fraction of the attention it deserves in formalized academics. I do not believe that graphing sentences or endless repitition of grammatical structures necessarily helps students grasp the finer points of Enlish. I take a careful, individualized approach with each student in assessing exactly where they are struggling and help them with the problem on their own terms. In short, I believe in relating the material to the individual rather than forcing the inividual to relate to the material. This has served both me and my students exceedingly well in the past, and I look forward to continuing to help others in their pursuit of a better understanding of the English language.
